Apply Kansas is a month-long, state-wide initiative to increase the number of students applying, enrolling and succeeding in college or other postsecondary goals.

Larned High School hosted Why Apply Day on Friday, September 20, 2024 and Apply Kansas Day on October 8, 2024!

DUAL CREDIT

LHS gives students the opportunity to earn credits for high school and college at the same time. Our Dual Credit program, taught by LHS teachers, allows students to earn credits from both LHS and Barton CCC simultaneously!

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM

Our Virtual Classroom allows students time to work independently on college courses via online modalities in the LHS classroom. Students take online courses during their Virtual Classroom time using their LHS Chromebook to provide a wider variety of course options for students!

FINANCIAL AID

There will be a FAFSA Help Night for Students and Parents on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025 in the LHS library from 5:30 - 7:00. 

The Department of Education is no longer providing paper FAFSA Applications to colleges, libraries or secondary schools.  Students must complete the FAFSA with one of the following three options:

The 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is projected to launch by December 1, 2024.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Completed scholarship applications are due in the counseling office by Friday, February 28, 2025 at 11am.  Some applications have earlier deadlines, please be sure to check the dates.

Pre-ACT

The PreACT is scheduled for October 30th, 2024 during the school day for freshman and sophomore students.

The ACT WorkKeys is scheduled for October 30th, 2024 during the school day for all Juniors.

Test Fees
$69 - No Writing

$94 - With Writing

$38 - Late Registration

The FREE ACT for Juniors will be given on February 25th, 2025. Juniors interested in testing need to sign up with Dr. Wasinger by Friday, November 15th.

If students want to take the ACT during the other national test dates, students must sign up independently and will be responsible for paying for that test.

ASVAB

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) exam will be on January 29, 2025 at 8:30 AM.

Here's some helpful information about the ASVAB. Once the students have a login they can use the Career Resources on this website or the parents can click on the Parent tab  here.

This is another resource published by the Army BUT it's free for everyone and has test prep materials, games, and information for students to prepare for the ACT, ASVAB, SAT, or college prep. Students do NOT have to be interested in the Army to take advantage of this resource! Check it out here!

2025 Girls State will be held from June 1 - 6, 2025.

2025 Boys State will be held at Kansas State University from June 1 - 7, 2025.

YOUTH TOUR AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Visit Midwest Energy's website to learn more about their Electric Cooperatives Youth Tour and Scholarship program. Midwest Energy will be sending two high school juniors to Washington, D.C., for the week-long Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, June 14-20, 2025.

Midwest Energy will also be awarding ten $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors for the secondary education program of their choice, with the awards paid directly to the student. Applications are due by January 31, 2025.

SCHOLARSHIPS - Each year GBT provides thousands of dollars in scholarships available to area youth. We are excited to again be able to  award 10 scholarships, each worth $700, to help further higher education among our youth in the GBT Service Area! YOUTH TOUR - Sponsored by GBT and FRS Youth Tour is a chance for high school students aged 16 or 17, to visit our nation’s capital for five days to learn about legislative and agency processes and the important role of broadband services in rural communities.
