Parents and Guardians of the 6th grade band and vocal students:
As I'm sure most of you know from your students, there is a 7-8th grade music festival in Larned next Tuesday, March 10.
Unfortunately they do not allow 6th graders to participate.
Rather than have them miss the performance experience, Mr. Jones and I organized and are holding a 6th grade mini music festival with our Larned Students on Thursday, March 12.
We will have two faculty members from BCC here to listen to and provide feedback to several soloists and ensembles along with the entire 6th grade band and a group of 6th vocal students.
We will hold the mini-festival right after school on Thursday the 12th with the band and the vocal students performing first so as many students as need to leave will be finished with their part of the festival before 4pm. Our judges will provide constructive feedback to each performing group including soloists and ensembles.
As I'm sure most of you have heard from your students, they have been practicing solos with our accompanist or in small ensembles on several occasions and they are eagerly anticipating this opportunity to perform.
All of you are welcome to watch any of the performers.
We will have the large groups perform in the band/choir room and the soloists perform in the conference room across the hall.
To help with after school rides and schedules as best we can, the band will perform as close to 3:30 as possible followed by the vocal ensemble. Then we will start with smaller ensembles and work our way to solosists. This allows the largest number of students to leave as soon as they wish after we/they perform.
Students do not need any special clothing for our mini-festival. They can wear what ever they choose.
We expect to have the entire mini-festival completed by 5pm.
Please help us make this a great experience for the musicians by making alternate arrangements for transportation home where necessary.
Thank you for all you do to support music in our schools.
Contact Mr. Lyman with questions.
All 6th-8th grade students will be completing state testing in Math, Science, and ELA subjects between March 23-May 1. Please have your students prepared for the assessments in the mornings during this time. We will share which grade level will test preceding each week.
