Larned High School has taken significant steps to enhance the overall learning experience for students this academic year. With a focus on safety, engagement, and minimizing distractions, the school has implemented a range of updates aimed at creating a more secure and focused learning environment for all students.
At the forefront of these initiatives is the E-Hall Pass program, designed to streamline student movement in the school. Students use their school-issued chromebooks to request permission to leave the classroom for various purposes, such as restroom visits or visiting other classrooms. Requests must be approved by teachers before students can proceed, ensuring greater accountability. The system comes with versatile customization options, allowing our administrators to manage the flow of students in the hallway. Additionally, it incorporates a built-in timer that encourages students to return to their classrooms in a timely manner.
Principal Wilson has advocated for the adoption of E-Hall Pass in other Central Kansas League schools by highlighting the positive changes it has brought to us. This successful initiative is also set to be introduced at Larned Middle School in the near future.
In addition, the Board of Education approved the purchase of over 30 security cameras that have been installed throughout the school. While recognizing that cameras alone may not prevent all incidents, they serve as a valuable tool for monitoring and, in some cases, act as a deterrent.
Another key change has been the implementation of a "No Cell Phone" policy. To minimize classroom distractions, teachers now have designated locations where students must place their cell phones at the beginning of each class. Teachers have commented that there has been a total shift in student interaction, saying that it is refreshing to see students engaging with one another instead of being buried in a screen.
This combined approach has proven to be a game-changer for our school. We extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated teachers, staff, SRO Marc Perez, and local law enforcement. Together, we're committed to the safety and well-being of students and staff at Larned High School.
